EXTC on worldwide tour and the legacy of XTC

There are so many terrific XTC cover bands out there. Nigels with Attitude, an XTC tribute band, caught my attention while searching for EXTC on YouTube. "Mayor of Simpleton" is one of my favorite songs and XTC songs. It has an infectious melody that makes your ears tingle. If you have never heard XTC's "Mayor of Simpleton," you should listen to it before listening to Nigels with Attitude's version.

XTC:

Nigels with Attitude:

One of the most influential and revered bands in the United Kingdom is XTC. The legacy of XTC has passed to EXTC, the band of XTC's legendary drummer, Terry Chambers. The band is supported by XTC's Andy Partridge and Dave Gregory. After 34 years, XTC officially disbanded in 2005. The former bandmate and bassist, Colin Moulding, joined Terry Chambers for a collaborative project. They called themselves TC&I. In early 2019, TC&I disbanded, but Terry soon wanted to resume live shows and get back to doing what he does best. At the beginning of the year, he formed EXTC in order to fulfill his desire to start performing once again.
EXTC deliver a vigorous performance with their large repertoire of classic XTC songs. With a resume that includes worldwide tours with The Police and Talking Heads, you can expect the band to deliver the same fire that XTC had in its heyday. The band is also in the process of writing new songs that pay homage to the past while forging an exciting new musical path.

After XTC stopped performing in 1982, the songs they recorded from that point on were never performed live.  Those too young or not even born at the time never experienced XTC.  XTC never got to promote themselves at all the major music festivals, which always saddened me.  These wonderful songs never made it out of the speakers and into the open air. Both 80's and 90's eras missed out big time.  The world needs more XTC! Sure, bands have covered XTC, but none have gone all out to promote them by way of a worldwide tour like EXTC. Bringing these songs to life in venues and festivals around the world is what makes this collaboration so special. Record sales for XTC may also increase as a result. With Terry Chambers being a member of EXTC, I wonder if he will be contributing to the songwriting of the new material or will he just play drums? That's something to be discovered...

Check out those links, listen to some XTC, and if you can, check out one of the EXTC shows! Alternatively, if you cannot see them, you can find some live recordings on YouTube. I'm just glad to see XTC's songs on an official tour now. My heart swells with joy. :)
